Week of Year

About this site and its method

Week of Year answers one question — what week of the year it is — and the questions around it: how many weeks in a year, in a month, for work and for pay. Every number on the site comes from one small set of date rules, run both when the pages are built and again in your browser so the current week is always your local date.

Rules used

ISO 8601 (ISO 8601-1:2019, §4.2.2): weeks start on Monday; week 1 is the week containing the first Thursday of the year, equivalently the week containing 4 January; a year has 52 or 53 such weeks. US convention: weeks start on Sunday; week 1 is the week containing 1 January. Leap years: divisible by 4, except centuries not divisible by 400. Weekdays: Monday–Friday, counted date by date; public holidays are not subtracted unless you enter them.
